A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is the primary quality document for research peptides. Before using a new lot in cell culture or assay work, review the COA against your experimental requirements.

Purity by HPLC is usually reported as area percentage. Higher purity reduces impurity noise in sensitive assays, but the right specification depends on your method. Confirm the HPLC method type and whether related substances are identified. Mass spectrometry (MS) confirmation helps verify molecular identity against the expected mass.

Also check lot number, manufacturing or release date, appearance (often white lyophilized powder), and recommended storage. If your institution requires full analytical packages, request chromatogram images and raw data availability up front.

Red flags include missing lot numbers, vague purity claims without methods, or documents that imply human use. Research peptides should be clearly labeled for laboratory research only.
